Ethnic Bengaluru apartment with a chic, contemporary soul
Restauranteur couple Akshata and Karthik, wanted their home to reflect their extensive travels over the world, their significant time spent living abroad and their South Indian heritage. Our goal was to create a balance between her keen eye for design and his deep passion for music, entertainment and hospitality. The apartment initially was a four bedroom apartment unit, which was converted into a 3 bedroom by merging two bedrooms to make one large master suite, one of the other bedrooms was converted into a study and another into a guest bedroom.
As you enter the house you see an open planned living, dining and front kitchen. The front kitchen doubles up as a breakfast counter, a bar and a space to bake. To the right of the entrance is a powder toilet, luxurious and moody in its design. To the left of the living and dining is a verandah that wraps around the apartment. The wall in the verandah has a tropical themed mural hand painted on its surface, adjacent to which is a high table with terrazzo top and Enzo Marie inspired bar chairs. Near the exit from the dining is a lounge setting. These form the public parts of the apartment.
Toward the entrance is a large room, meant to be the master bedroom. This was converted into a cozy Victorian-themed guest room.
The master suite toward the rear of the apartment is essentially two rooms combined to create a large private room. The room has a bathroom, a space to wind-down and watch movies, a large closet adjacent to which is a jacuzzi, and then a four-poster bed.
