Bringing Vintage Back to an Ice-Cream Parlour

Polar Bear, a 10-year-old ice cream chain based in India underwent a brand redesign exercise before a massive expansion. For their 355 sq. ft. ice cream parlour in urban Jayanagar, the store had to feel comfortable and spacious, yet accommodate maximum covers. The design format commissioned would then be replicated across all their new stores. The tandem bicycle insignia, a part of the brand illustration docket, had a strong vintage undertone to it. Their bold brand colours comprising sunflower yellow, pop blue and striking orange, brought a more youthful and modern approach to the new branding narrative.

Booth seating with inbuilt electrical points were planned along the periphery of the store facing the street, using stained flexi ply. Planter boxes were proposed along the exterior partition to create a sense of privacy between the indoor seating and the storefront. Table sizes were also optimized to the parlour tray sizes to allow for comfortable dining.

The trademark colour of the brand ‘Sunflower Yellow’ was expressed in various parts of the store, including the yellow French door located centrally on the façade.  The outcome perfectly achieved a parlour that is relaxed and charming.
